Een lijst van zo'n tachtig UvA PhD's, dr.'s en professoren die Peterson ervan betichten een "pseudowetenschapper" te zijn en verkondigen dat: "Voor mensen bij wie fundamentele academische normen en waarden hoog in het vaandel staan, is het volgende glashelder: RfD heeft Peterson eenvoudigweg uitgenodigd omdat hij populair en ‘omstreden’ is, niet vanwege zijn deskundigheid." Aangezien de brief geen formele oproep tot de-platforming was, maar oproep tot een "extra gast om tegenwicht te bieden", dachten we dat Peterson de aantijging over z'n kant zou laten gaan. Dat dachten we verkeerd en gisteren maakte hij tijd om de hele brief maar gewoon te kloosrieden.

Het is duidelijk dat vooral het in twijfel trekken van z'n academische credentials een stap te ver was, en misschien ook wel terecht. "I have no opinions that are “shocking examples of pseudo-science,” because I actually am a scientist and a good one with a stellar academic reputation, and I know the literature to which I refer. (...) With regards to my legitimacy: I have more than a hundred peer-reviewed scientific papers, as author or co-author (most often with my students, whom I most often encourage to take first authorship), with some ten thousand citations. This places me above the 99th percentile for documented influence among social scientists (ResearchGate places me in the top 2% of scientists overall, in terms of influence). I was a professor at Harvard, both Assistant and Associated, and tenured as a full professor at the University of Toronto, an institution whose psychology department is regularly ranked in the top five in the world. I’ll happily stack up my academic reputation and “expertise” against any of my erstwhile opponents at the University of Amsterdam, or anywhere else, for that matter."

Ook noemt de brief Peterson meermaals "een beruchte klimaatontkenner" en "anti-klimaatwetenschappelijk". Dat pareerde het heerschap met "And the mere fact that I have occasionally tweeted something indicating something indicative of the dreadful complexity of the climate science debate (something I did in fact study for several years while working on the UN Secretary General’s High-Level Panel on Sustainability: Final report available here) does not mean that I am a “notorious climate denier." En, na de voltallige lijst van protesterende UvA-academici integraal te kopieëren, sluit hij af met: "See you in Amsterdam, you cowards, denouncers and totalitarian wannabes."

De organisatie heeft trouwens toegezegd een extra 20 minuten voor Q&A in te lassen, maar zal geen extra gast uitnodigen. Enfin, zin in coke nu.
