Even een overzichtje.

Op 19 februari 2020 verscheen deze brief in The Lancet, dat tot aan hun hoax hydroxychloroquine-is-gevaarlijk-onderzoek bekend stond als vooraanstaand medisch vakblad. In die brief lezen we dat:

"We stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin. (...) Conspiracy theories do nothing but create fear, rumours, and prejudice that jeopardise our global collaboration in the fight against this virus. We support the call from the Director-General of WHO to promote scientific evidence and unity over misinformation and conjecture. We want you, the science and health professionals of China, to know that we stand with you in your fight against this virus. We invite others to join us in supporting the scientists, public health professionals, and medical professionals of Wuhan and across China. Stand with our colleagues on the frontline! We speak in one voice. (...) We declare no competing interests."

Nou, dat met één stem spreken gaat vanaf nu dus met een van de prominenste van de 27 stemmen minder, want de Amerikaanse hoogleraar microbiologie dr. Peter Palese trekt zijn ondertekening keihard terug: " I believe a thorough investigation about the origin of the Covid-19 virus is needed. Alot of disturbing information has surfaced since the Lancet letter I signed, so I want to see answers covering all questions."

Bizarre taal in die brief ook eigenlijk. Je reinste vorm van conformisme afdwingen door wetenschappers met maatschappelijk kapitaal te chanteren. Oud-Nature- en oud-New York Times-journalist Nicholas Wade schreef hier begin mei over dat de brieven "were really political, not scientific, statements, yet were amazingly effective". 

En met die "no competing interrests" valt het ook behoorlijk mee, want de Lancet-brief was dus georchestreerd door partner van het Wuhan Instititute of Virology dr. Peter Daszak. Inderdaad, dezelfde man die Fauci bedankt voor zijn publieke weerlegging van de lab hypothesis én dezelfde man die samen met Marion Koopmans (die zich alleen maar verder ingegraven heeft) namens het WHO onderzoek deed naar... de oorsprong van het virus.
