Tenminste, dat schrijven voormalig Clinton-adviseurs Mark Penn and Andrew Stein in de WSJ, en wij geloven slachtoffers. Ongetwijfeld een gecoördineerd proefballonetje om te kijken wat het losmaakt. En jezus, wat is het invoelbaar ook. Een ambitieuze vrouw in de levenslange schaduw van een overspelige echtgenoot, in 2008 de nominatie voor het presidentschap proeven maar mislopen, vervolgens wennen aan het centrum van de macht en geopolitieke relevantie als Obama's SecState, in 2016 zelfs tot op een paar uur voor de uitslag 97% zeker van het daadwerkelijke presidentschap zijn, en toen was het ineens voorbij. Maar in plaats van het in waardigheid los te laten hield ze  vast aan het narratief dat de Russen haar het presidentschap ontnomen hadden, en nu wil ze wraak.

Expect Hillary 4.0 to come out swinging. She has decisively to win those Iowa caucus-goers who have never warmed up to her. They will see her now as strong, partisan, left-leaning and all-Democrat—the one with the guts, experience and steely-eyed determination to defeat Mr. Trump. She has had two years to go over what she did wrong and how to take him on again.

(...) Instead she will enter through the front door, mobilizing the army of professional women behind her, leveraging her social networks, and raking in donations. She will hope to emerge as an unstoppable force to undo Mr. Trump, running on the #MeToo movement, universal health care and gun control.

(...) Don’t pay much attention to the “I won’t run” declarations. Mrs. Clinton knows both Mr. Clinton and Mr. Obama declared they weren’t running, until they ran. She may even skip Iowa and enter the race later, but rest assured that, one way or another, Hillary 4.0 is on the way."

Wat hier precies staat weet niemand, maar onze inschatting is dat Hillary 4.0 gaat double downen op (gender)identiteitspolitiek, omdat twee jaar te krap is om die hele filosofie uit de campagne te verwijderen én er een klassiek centrum-links verhaal voor in de plaats te zetten. Immers, "you can't be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about". Oh man dit wordt leuk.
