Ja toch even twee opmerkelijke nieuwe peilingen uit het Frans-Duitse keizerrijk. France24 schrijft: "A sizeable majority of French people generally support the reinstatement of military service (86 percent) and even compulsory service (53 percent), according to an Ipsos-CESI Engineering School poll published on Saturday. A YouGov poll earlier this month found most people in Germany (58 percent) also support mandatory military service for young people (...)."

Voor Duitsland zou dit sowieso een uitkomst zijn, omdat het eigenlijk geen idee heeft hoe het alle nieuw aan te schaffen wapenplatformen moet gaan bemannen. De Financial Times schreef daar dit weekend over: "Germany’s armed forces commissioner, Eva Högl, this week warned the country was not closer to its goal of having 203,000 active troops by 2031, as the overall size of the armed forces slightly declined last year, partly because of a high number of dropouts. A quarter of the 18,810 men and women who signed up in 2023 left the armed forces within six months."
