Liveblog 61. Trump: 'Operatie binnen twee, misschien drie weken ten einde', derde vliegdekschip vertrekt ondertussen richting Iran, Amerikaanse journaliste ontvoerd in Irak

Het is al dagen achtereen Trump op z'n Trumpst: enerzijds vrij nadrukkelijk blijven suggereren dat de operatie binnenkort ten einde is, anderzijds beweegt het zwaarst denkbare materieel nog altijd richting de Iraanse branding. Gisteren was dit het contrast tussen enerzijds Trumps eigen posts met video's uit de jaren '90 van hemzelf waarin hij de inname van Iraanse olie-infrastructuur bepleit, en de massale opbouw van speciale eenheden en amfibische landings-eenheden, en anderzijds de berichten dat Trump de oorlog zou willen beëindigen, zelfs als Hormuz gesloten zou blijven. 

En nu is het weer de bovenstaande video, waarin hij zegt dat de operatie "binnen twee, misschien drie weken" voorbij zal zijn enerzijds, en anderzijds het nieuws dat een derde vliegdekschip namelijk de USS George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group onderweg is richting Iran. En die tocht duurt dus ongeveer precies drie weken, want het schip vertrekt helemaal vanuit Norfolk, Virginia. Het is overigens ook mogelijk dat deze nieuwe groep de USS Gerald Ford Carrier Strike Group vervangt.

Ondertussen staat ook het NAVO-bondgenootschap weer lekker onder druk omdat de netto-ontvangers (Italië en Spanje) moeilijk beginnen te doen over het gebruik van hun luchtruim en basissen. En daar heeft Rubio dan weer het volgende over te zeggen: "Why are we in NATO? You have to ask that question. Why do we send trillions of dollars and have all of these American forces stationed in the region, if in our time of need, we won't be allowed to use those bases?"

Update 08:09 - 14 gewonden in centraal Israël door clustermunitie van Iraanse ballistische raket, een meisje van 11 in kritieke toestand.
Update 08:27 - Er circuleert een ongeverifieerde video van de inslag van een Iraanse ballistische raket op een Amerikaanse basis in Irak, gefilmd door een Amerikaanse soldaat vlakbij de inslag. De aanval zou plaatst hebben gevonden op 30 maart.
Update 08:32 - Amerikaanse freelance journaliste in Irak Shelly Kittleson is ontvoerd door een waarschijnlijk Iran-gezinde militie. De website waar ze voor schrijft, Al-Monitor, bericht: "American freelance journalist Shelly Kittleson was abducted in Baghdad on Tuesday, Iraq’s Interior Ministry said, as security forces work to track down the perpetrators. The ministry said in a statement that an operation was launched immediately based on what it called “precise intelligence.” It said that Iraqi authorities had intercepted one of the vehicles believed to belong to her abductors that flipped over as they tried to flee, but Kittleson was not in that vehicle. Local news reports indicated she was abducted near the Baghdad Hotel on Saadoun Street. The State Department said a suspect taken into custody by Iraqi authorities had ties to the pro-Iranian militia Kataib Hezbollah." Haar laatste retweet op Twitter was op 30 maart. Update 10:35 - De Emiraten willen ISLAND HOPPEN en de Totale Oorlog. De Wall Street Journal schrijft: "The United Arab Emirates is preparing to help the U.S. and other allies open the Strait of Hormuz by force, Arab officials said, a move that would make it the first Persian Gulf country to become a combatant, after being hit by Iranian attacks. The U.A.E. is lobbying for a United Nations Security Council resolution that would authorize such action, the officials said. Emirati diplomats have urged the U.S. and military powers in Europe and Asia to form a coalition to open the strait by force (...). The Gulf state has also said the U.S. should occupy islands in the strategic waterway including Abu Musa, which has been held by Iran for a half-century and is claimed by the U.A.E., some of the Arab officials said."
Update 10:49 - Video: gisteren trok er op klaarlichte dag een Hamas-mars door Amsterdam met o.a. de leus "Death, Death to the IOF". Ze bedoelen de IDF, maar zeggen 'Occupation' in plaats van 'Defense'.
Update 12:16 - In een exclusief interview met het Britse The Telegraph, zegt Trump, gevraagd of hij Amerika's lidmaatschap van de NAVO gaat heroverwegen: "Oh yes, I would say [it’s] beyond reconsideration. I was never swayed by Nato. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too, by the way. We’ve been there automatically, including Ukraine. Ukraine wasn’t our problem. It was a test, and we were there for them, and we would always have been there for them. They weren’t there for us." Op zich geen patroonbreuk met eerdere uitlatingen als NAVO-lidstaten dwarsliggen hoor, maar toch.
Update 13:31 - Makkers van harte het is ISLAMIC REPUBLIC DAY en dat viert het Iraanse regime met de "largest national flag ceremonially unfurled at Tehran's Culture Passage, with citizens and artists gathering to celebrate."
Update 14:56 - Trump is wakker en post: "Iran’s New Regime President, much less Radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE! We will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear. Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!! President DJT".
Update 16:16 - MinBuZa van Iran Araghchi gelooft niet dat er een Amerikaanse grondoperatie ophanden is. In een interview met Al Jazeera zegt hij: "I do not think they would dare to do such a thing. Very heavy casualties would await them. You have seen the damage inflicted on them… and what happened to their AWACS? In ground warfare, we are even better than this. We are fully prepared to confront any ground threat to our country."
Update 16:49 - Iran heeft even geleden de grootste aanval met ballistische raketten van de afgelopen weken uitgevoerd. De IDF meldt ondertussen ook weer te zijn begonnen met grootschalige luchtaanvallen op Teheran.
