Mig 29's, de mooiste vrouwen van Kiev

We WISTEN het eergisteren eigenlijk al door dat ondoorleefde gestamel van Bidens StateSec Blinken toen hij zei dat Polen "groen licht" kreeg voor deze operatie: "ze [Polen] willen wel maar durven niet, en de Amerikanen voelen zich heus ook wel hetzelfde, maar kunnen hun bluf verbergen achter de Poolse twijfel." Nou, gisteravond groot in het nieuws dat Polen eindelijk de knoop doorhakte en per officieel overheids-communiqué aankondigde dat:

"The authorities of the Republic of Poland (...) are ready to deploy – immediately and free of charge – all their MIG-29 jets to the Ramstein Air Base and place them at the disposal of the Government of the United States of America. At the same time, Poland requests the United States to provide us with used aircraft with corresponding operational capabilities. Poland is ready to immediately establish the conditions of purchase of the planes. The Polish Government also requests other NATO Allies – owners of MIG-29 jets – to act in the same vein."

Maar toen puntje bij paaltje kwam liet Amerika zich van de allerzwakste kant zien, en dat ondermijnt de geloofwaardigheid van Westerse wil Oekraïne te verdedigen enorm.

Onderstaand Pentagon-woordvoerder John Kirby. "As we have said, the decision about whether to transfer Polish-owned planes to Ukraine is ultimately one for the Polish government. (...) The prospect of fighter jets “at the disposal of the Government of the United States of America” departing from a U.S./NATO base in Germany to fly into airspace that is contested with Russia over Ukraine raises serious concerns for the entire NATO alliance. (...) It is simply not clear to us that there is a substantive rationale for it. We will continue to consult with Poland and our other NATO allies about this issue and the difficult logistical challenges it presents, but we do not believe Poland’s proposal is a tenable one."

Stom van Polen dat ze schreven dat de toestellen "at the disposal of the Government of the United States of America" zouden komen te staan in plaats van aan NAVO. Maar het is voorbij elke kleinzerigheid dat de VS deze taal van uitgerekend Polen aangrijpt om zich achter te verbergen.

En technisch gezien is het doneren van NAVO-straaljagers zonder piloten toch niet heel anders dan het doneren van andere NAVO-wapens zonder militairen die ingezet worden om 'betwist grondgebied' te verdedigen? De oorlog is nog lang niet voorbij, maar deze specifieke slag is voor Poetin.

UPDATE: Zelensky reageert. "Zelensky urges Poland, US to decide on logistics of sending fighter jets to Ukraine immediately. “Listen, we have a war! We do not have time for all these signals,” Zelensky said. “It’s about human lives! We ask once again: Solve it faster. Do not shift the responsibility.” "
