Nou da's niet de eerste, maar wel de eerste in China

Bovenal is dit natuurlijk een opsteker voor China's diplomatieke imago, zo'n 'eenheidsverklaring' door 14 Palestijnse politieke fracties waaronder Hamas en de Palestijnse Autoriteit/Fatah/PLO. Maar in de toelichting tijdens de afsluitingsceremonie door China's MinBuz zijn meteen al een aantal zaken opmerkelijk. Hij zegt namelijk: "The core outcome of the reconciliation dialogue among Palestinian factions held in Beijing is to specify that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) is the sole legitimate representative of all the Palestinian people. (...) The most significant highlight is the agreement to form an interim national reconciliation government focused on the post-war governance of Gaza."

Opmerkelijk dat Hamas hiermee zijn rol als vertegenwoordiger van 'het Palestijnse volk' op zou geven en vervolgens op zou gaan in de Palestijnse Autoriteit, waar het in 2007 de Gazaanse burgeroorlog tegen won. Ook is de Palestijnse Autoriteit voorstander van een tweestatenoplossing en erkent het Israëls bestaansrecht, terwijl Hamas Israëls bestaansrecht én bestaan niet erkent.

Israëls MinBuz reageert overigens vanuit de tegenovergestelde hoek: "Hamas and Fatah signed an agreement in China for joint control of Gaza after the war. Instead of rejecting terrorism, Mahmoud Abbas embraces the murderers and rapists of Hamas, revealing his true face. In reality, this won’t happen because Hamas's rule will be crushed, and Abbas will be watching Gaza from afar. Israel's security will remain solely in Israel's hands."
